After Andrew Bogut broke his leg 58 seconds into his Cleveland Cavaliers, it seemed we might have seen the last of the veteran big man in the NBA.
However, he returned to his native Australia and continued to ply his trade in the country’s National Basketball League, playing for the Sydney Kings. In his debut season Bogut averaged 11.4 points, 11.6 rebounds and and 2.7 blocks per game and took home the League’s Most Valuable Player, Defensive Player of the Year and also made the All NBL first team.
After his Sydney Kings were eliminated from the postseason by Melbourne United, speculation started that there would be some NBA teams interested in Bogut’s services. Sunday, The Athletic and Stadium’s Shams Charania reported was mulling over which NBA ballclub he would sign with.
Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports reported that defending champion Golden State Warriors intend to sign Bogut for the remainder of this season. Additionally, according to Haynes, Bogut will sign with the Warriors “after he receives his letter of clearance from the Sydney Kings of Australia’s National Basketball League.” A process that Haynes states that should take about 48 hours. The clearance would allow him to play for the Warriors for the remainder of the 2018-19 season and then return to the Kings for the start of the NBL season.
